Marcílio Marques Moreira is Founding Director of Centennial Group Latin America. He has a distinguished career as a public official, diplomat, academic and private sector leader in Brazil. Until 2005, he was Senior International Advisor to Merrill Lynch and President of the Rio de Janeiro Chamber of Commerce. In the early 1990s, he served as Minister of the Economy, Finance and Planning of Brazil. During his tenure he was instrumental in leading Brazil’s efforts to transform an outdated, inward-looking, state-led and inflation-fueled economic model into a more modern system by strengthening the pace of trade openness, privatization, deregulation of the economy and restructuring of the foreign debt. He served as the Brazilian Ambassador to the U.S. (1986-1991), Executive Vice-President and Member of the Board of Directors of Unibanco, Member of the Board of BNDES (National Development Bank). He has served and serves on numerous boards of directors in leading private and public institutions. Ambassador Moreira holds a B.S.F.S degree in Foreign Service from the Instituto Rio Branco, an LL.B degree from the State University of Rio de Janeiro and an M.A. in Political Science from Georgetown University. He was Dean of Social Sciences, Member of the Board and Assistant Professor of the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ). He has published extensively on debt and trade, political and development issues. Mr. Moreira is based in Rio.
